Our 4 pillars
RETAIL
It has always been acknowledged that retailers in Limerick must speak to each other, identify issues and work together to ensure the city works to it’s best potential. The key aim of this pillar is retailers ‘working together to create footfall’.
We have appointed a Project Manager in James Ryan (Centra O’ConnellSt/William St). His role is to communicate any retail related ideas to retailers in Limerick city with a view to structuring a co-ordinated plan from a retail perspective. A weekly meeting is now happening between a large group of retailers in the city with more joining the initiative as it grows in profile.
To date the retail pillar has identified a number key initiatives on which to focus:
- Launch of the Summer sale season
- Future footprints of Limerick in Association with Childline and Milk Market
- Painting Competition with Primary Children
- Buskers/Street Entertainers in Limerick
- Special Events on every Saturday or every 2nd Saturday
- Marching Band to play in city every couple of weeks
- Retail brochure and map
- App and more feed into Limerick.ie website
- Welcoming students back into city in September
- Variety of Parking initiatives
- Better promotion of city centre collectively

TOURISM
Tourism is one of the four pillars of activity that Limerick Local Heroes is currently involved in. Our aim is to spread awareness of Limerick’s capacity to be a central hub for tourist activity.
A prominent hotel owner has come on board to head up our tourism pillar and the city already has a successful hotel organisation, all of whom are communicating well. We have identified a number of initiatives from the Thomond Park Ideas Summit which are actionable and are adding to this list daily.
There are a number of initiatives that are currently active, with many committed people striving to complete these goals for the overall benefit of the city. To read more about activities being investigated under this pillar click here
3 e’s (ENTERPRISE, EMPLOYMENT AND EDUCATION)
The pillar is working towards establishing what bodies are working in Limerick, what their services are with the intention of pointing any interested party to the relevant body rather than trying to duplicate any excellent work currently being done by them, the aim of the pillar is to be a conduit or facilitator to help people find the resources that they need.
In addition we plan to run some training seminars and a possible career seminar in conjunction with Skillsnet. If you would like to contribute to this pillar, would like advice in relation to possible business initiatives or simply offer your expertise to Limerick Local Heroes please contact us in the hub on 061 260404

COMMUNITY
Our Community pillar may present itself as ‘community animator’ or ‘community mobliser’. That is an action or activity that moves a community forward.
The community pillar is a community of communities: a group dedicated to supporting projects that bring people together in a positive, socially beneficial way. A community can be a location or a group of friends around the table – we plan to support the sharing of information, ideas and actions for the good of all in Limerick City.
The community pillar meets every two weeks and we are always welcoming new additions to the team. If you have an interest in our goals or have a background in local community engagement then we would love to meet you. To read more about ideas being undertaken by this pillar click here
